CIEH Foundation in Health & Safety in the workplace

This one day course covers some of the most common Health and Safety issues in the workplace. Good health and safety standards rely on employers and employees working together. This qualification represents a foundation of knowledge required by everyone. It provides essential understanding of health and safety for employees working in any business sector.

CIEH Principles of manual handling

Principles of Manual Handling is a stand-alone level 1 qualification, which complements the CIEH Basic Health and Safety program. It is aimed at those who carry out manual handling activities at work and introduces students to the hazards of manual handling, the risks involved and controls available and what to expect from a manual handling assessment. Successful completion will prepare students to look carefully at their own work activities and contribute to the development of safer methods and tasks, in co-operation with their managers and supervisors. The qualification is not intended to train students to carry out manual handling assessments nor to provide detailed training on handling techniques. ½ day course

CIEH principles of COSHH certificate

Principles of COSHH is a stand-alone level 1 qualification, which complements the CIEH Health and Safety programme. It is aimed at those who use substances hazardous to health and introduces students to the hazards associated with those substances, the risks and controls available and what to expect from a COSHH assessment. Successful completion will prepare students to look carefully at their own work activities and contribute to the safer use of hazardous substances in co-operation with their managers and supervisors. While this unit of study can be delivered as a stand-alone qualification and there are no specific pre-requisites, it is strongly recommended that students should already hold the CIEH Foundation Certificate in Health and Safety in the Workplace. ½ day course

CIEH Risk Assessment

This 1 day course will enable delegates to acquire knowledge and practical skills to improve their competency in carrying out risk assessments under Health & Safety legislation.

Outcomes

By the end of the course delegates should be able to:

  • State the purposes for and benefits of utilising a risk assessment approach to the management of health & safety
  • State the basic principles of risk assessment and stages involved in carrying out risk assessments in practice
  • State the key legislative requirements on risk assessment
  • Carry out, record, monitor and review risk assessments within their own working environment, (subject to possession of the necessary technical knowledge and skills)
  • Additionally delegates will be able to realise the limitations of their knowledge and will be aware of where to seek further information, guidance and assistance

After completion of the course candidates can undertake a risk assessment in their own workplace, candidates reaching a satisfactory standard in the assessment will be awarded the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Certificate in Risk Assessment.
